A 34-year-old woman killed by her stalker

A 34-year-old woman, who hailed from Shillong and worked at a beauty parlour in Delhi’s Rohini area, was stabbed to death, allegedly by an auto driver at Gurgaon’s MG Road Metro station on a busy Monday morning. Her family alleged that the accused, 25-year-old Jitender, had been stalking her for the last few months.
Police said the incident took place at around 10 am on Monday, soon after the victim, Pinky Devi, entered the Metro station from gate number two to travel to Rohini.
Devi lived in Gurgaon’s Sarhaul village with her husband, Maan Singh, who works in housekeeping in a pantry in Gurgaon. The couple had been married for three years and had no children.
 Eyewitnesses said Jitender assaulted Devi in the gallery area of the Metro station, near the stores and food stalls, and a little before the security area.
CISF and police personnel cordoned off the crime scene afterwards. Signboards usually placed around the station were gathered and placed around the pool of blood, which was also surrounded by plastic bottles and slippers.
According to eyewitnesses, Jitender first assaulted Devi from behind, pushing and hitting her. When she fell to the ground, he allegedly sat on top of her, pulled out a knife, and slit her throat.
“He kept sitting on her and stabbing her, on her face, her hands, everywhere,” said a food vendor at the Metro station. “Bystanders tried to rush to her rescue, but he threatened everyone with a knife.”
 The incident took place during peak hours and a crowd soon gathered. Eyewitnesses said bystanders began throwing things at the accused — including slippers and bottles — to ward him off. Eventually, someone threw the outer cover of an electric standing fan at his head and Jitender fell unconscious. He was then caught by CISF personnel and handed over to the police.
Devi was rushed to Uma Sanjeevani Hospital in DLF Phase 2, from where she was referred to the Civil Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries a little before noon.
Dr Deepak Mathur, who conducted the post-mortem examination, said “more than 30 sharp weapon injuries” had been inflicted on Devi’s body, mainly on her chest and neck.
“The wounds were inflicted in multiple directions and at multiple depths, with some being stabs and others incisions. This shows they were inflicted aimlessly and mercilessly, without much planning or thought… The injuries were mostly on the upper part of her body… There were also some incisions on her face,” he said.
Police said Jitender hails from Uttar Pradesh and used to live in Gurgaon’s Rajiv Nagar. He was also admitted to Civil Hospital for treatment, said police.
Police did not comment on whether he had been stalking Devi. “It is too early to comment on this allegation. We are yet to question the accused because he is still being treated. It is only when this is done, and further investigations are conducted, that we will know what really happened,” said ACP Munish Sehgal, PRO of Gurgaon police.
