How Nigerian stars swept MAMA 2015 Awards
Nigeria again dominated this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards, MAMA, carting away most of the coveted trophies.
Leading the way was Davido, who retained his title as Africa’s Best male Artiste of the year. He won the same award last year. The Aye crooner beats his South African counterpart, AKA, Diamond from Tanzania, Ghanaian Sarkodie and Wizkid to clinch the trophy.
Receiving his award, Davido declares that he is a double champion. “I have won it for the second time, having been a winner last year,”, he said.
Other Nigerian singers that won awards include, songstress, Yemi Alade who emerged the Best female act of the year. She beats Seyi Shay, South Africa’s Bucie and Busiswa as well as Vanessa from Tanzania to lift the trophy . Psquare also won the Best Group in Africa while D’banj won MAMA Evolution award. Mavin Records’ Dorobucci emerged the Best Song of the Year.
It was another memorable outing for Nigeria at this year’s MAMA. Not only did our superstars cart away most of the awards, they lighted up the stage with their electrifying performances.
Opening the floor on the night was 2face, who performed his evergreen, “African Queen”, which got everyone dancing and singing along with him. Thereafter, Yemi Alade came on stage and gave a remarkable performance. But the hall erupted in a thunderous ovation when Psquare and D’banj mounted the stage. Performing his “Oliver Twist” after Psquare’s, D’banj returned to reckoning, using his stagecraft to relaunch his dwindling musical career.
